Robert E. Cohen, PsyD, ABPP is a rehabilitation neuropsychologist and partner of Neurocognitive Consultants of Orlando. He is also the MLS concussion consultant for Orlando City Soccer at Level One Trauma Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Orlando Health. He specializes in both forensic (IME and expert testimony) and clinical evaluations that help answer the question regarding the presence, severity, and impact of traumatic brain injury including secondary factors of chronic pain, depression/anxiety/PTSD on injury outcome and recovery. Other topics of expertise include other neurological injuries and diseases and law including competency. Extensive federal defense work focused on mitigation.

Dr. Cohen earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated magna cum laude before graduating with his master’s degree in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from the same institution with a focus on behavioral medicine and rehabilitation of neurological diseases and conditions. Dr. Cohen then completed an internship at North Chicago Veterans Hospital with special focus on evaluating and treating post-traumatic war veterans before completing his residency at St. Mary’s All Saints Healthcare — Rehabilitation Hospital where he focused on the neuropsychological assessment and treatment of acute traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Cohen started up the Department of Neuropsychology in 2005 and was clinical director of the department for several years. He has shifted roles to private consulting in the Orlando Community in 2014 and three years ago teamed up with Orlando City Soccer Team and Level One Trauma at Orlando Health providing concussion management and consultation for players who have experienced a concussion/mild traumatic brain injury. He assists the medical team to determine readiness for return to play. Dr. Cohen served as president of the Florida Psychological Association — Central Chapter from 2008-10. He is currently a member of Division 22, American Psychological Association, a professional member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the Sports Neuropsychology Society, and a board member of Share the Care.
